Girlfriends Go Green on vacation

Be Green Girlfriend Ladies Eat, Sleep and Shower Green

Many destinations and travel companies are making it easier to travel green. This type of trip will be an eye opener for all you girls out there who want to give the planet a break and give back to nature. At first, you may think it is a sacrifice to do something like this on your yearly vacation but it can be gratifying and fun. See these great Eco Friendly Vacation Ideas.

Whoo, whoo, ride the rails on your next vacation and reduce your carbon footprint while traveling. Train travel allows you to slow your roll and see some scenery. If you are interested in roughing it through some beautiful land and becoming one with nature visit Mexico's Cooper Canyon, it is the place to go with your girlfriends.

If you are into the outdoors consider hiking or horseback riding through this isolated territory where indigenous people still live where they have for centuries. Learn more about Mexico's Cooper Canyon by going to www.frommers.com One of my faves is to take a volunteer vacation. It has a name "voluntourism" so you can give back while laying back. Earthwatch Institute (http://www.earthwatch.org) is one of the leading organizers of volunteer trips to preserve the environment. For 2008, Earthwatch has arranged more than 100 expeditions to 50 countries around the world. Some trips include studying ice caves in Alaska to learn how climate change may change the behavior of glaciers or study population levels and migration routes of endangered sea animals in the Portuguese Azores islands. Visit a green city like NY. It has become one of America's most energy efficient and top eco-friendly cities. Enjoy the new fleet of green taxis, experience the great subway and bus system that is still only $2.00 per ride a long with seeing first hand the Big Apple's environmentally friendly architecture. New York is taking their old buildings and new construction with green in mind. Again, a great city to hang in with the girls, easy to get to and is easy on the pocket. www.citysightsnyc.com

Other green cities to considered: Austin Texas, Berkeley California and Boston Massachusetts Another great green idea is to visit a National Park for your vacation with your posse. How great would it be to relax in the wilderness with your BFFs. Camp outdoors or stay at one of the top national park lodges. www.valdosta.edu. See nature close up and try to explore the backcountry with a backpack and some lip-gloss. There is no limit to where you can stay. There are nearly 400 sites across the nation in the US national park system usually located in breathtaking scenic areas. Rough it girls! Single Girl's Faves: Yosemite National Park, Montana's Glacier National Park and Sequoia National Park (Single Girls BFF Anya's fav)

Now that you have a green idea of where to stay and what to do Single Girl has 5 tips for a greener trip:

1. Rent eco-friendly cars www.evental.com

2. Re-use your towels in your hotel room in an effort to conserve water.

3. Eat at local restaurants that grow their own seasonal vegetables and herbs.

4. Drive don't fly to your next destination, if possible.

5. Before you book a hotel room check and see what recycling program is in place. There is an elephant in the room, global warming is here so lets try to slow it down or make it disappear. If being green is your cause share the responsibilities amongst your girlfriend's and task one another with a research project before your trip. Take advantage of all the green hospitality and travel options out there.
